The Canadian Tourism Commission is taking the nation’s mind off the cold chill of winter and offering snow-lovers a chance to share their favourite and less-traveled destinations, and discover the Canada you don’t know. Canadians can visit the Locals Know contest website, or http://www.secretdici.ca from now until March 21, 2010 and create a locals know account. Participants can upload an original photograph with a 200 word description explaining the unique nature of your destination. As the contest hopes to determine the photograph that best displays and communicates Canada’s tourism destination all entries will be judged on several elements of criteria including the submission of a unique, less traveled destination or experience that can be enjoyed in Canada during the winter season and which inspires Canadians to travel their, the accompanying description and that the photo itself shows the special nature of the destination or experience. The Locals Know website also features a map of Canada which allows participants to check out the competition from each province or territory. Fans can rate each others photographs, leave comments and check out exciting deals going on in that area. The site also allows fans to connect to social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, MySpace and more to share everything with their friends online. Fans can also take a look at some favourite Canadian celebrity spots including the women’s Canadian curling team led by Jennifer Jones, doubles luge Olympian Chris Moffat and six-time Paralympic medalist - para-alpine skiing, Karolina Wisniewska. There are 13 prizes available to be won, one from each of the provinces and territories listed on the site. One prize from each province will be awarded, while some provinces have provided the option to chose from among a selection of prizes.
