AOL, a global Web services company with more than 80 content sites has launched two new websites, Owl and Seed. The sites allow users to post expert advice and get paid for submitting photos and essays. Owl is described as a new source of wisdom covering everything from anvils to eggs. It is introduced as, “a living, breathing library where useful knowledge, opinions and images are posted from experts the world over.” Current topics on Owl are finding the perfect red lipstick, marriage advice, and 10 great games to play in Linux. To submit content users must go to SEED. SEED assigns, buys and distributes work for all of AOL’s properties. To submit content, participants must be a U.S. resident and 18 or older. The site is created so that qualified writers and photographers can connect with AOL’s audience. To submit content to SEED, participants can check out the list of assignments that SEED provides. If they want to write about a topic not offered in the assignment queue, they must click on the ‘Create Your Own’ button to submit an article on a topic of their choice. After content is submitted it is sent to a professional editor who may reject it if it does not meet AOL’s quality standards or publishing terms. If it is accepted it will appear on one of over 80 sites within the AOL network. Participants will receive a portion of the profits their content generates.
