Sara Lee Fresh Ideas pre-sliced deli meats has offered to pay one U.S. dollar for every person that signs onto the brands Twitter page and signs up to follow its tweets within the 24-hour period beginning at midnight PST November 3, 2009. “National Sandwich Day is a terrific opportunity for us to make a difference and help a hungry child in need,” Sara Lee deli vice president Jonathan Drake said in a release. “We are giving our consumers a simple way to participate in the program and join Sara Lee deli in the fight against hunger.” The account had close to 1500 followers at the time this article was written and Sara Lee has promised to contribute up to $25,000 in the Deli Difference registration drive. The company has been sending out tweets about the campaign since mid-October using the hashtags #sldeli and #delidifference to engage and encourage participants and consumers to spread the word throughout their personal communities. The campaign spreads across multiple platforms as it is also making use of the Sara Lee Facebook page including forum discussions, polls and interactive tools as well recipes are being posted on both networks including instructions from Sara Lee chefs in the seven steps to creating an award-winning sandwich. Sara Lee calculated that the total donation would translate into the equivalent of 16,500 sandwiches toward Share Our Strength, which has a goal of ending childhood hunger in America by 2015.
